Thinking of Applying to Landscape Artist of the Year? Read This First…
Taking part in Landscape Artist of the Year was one of the most exciting — and intense — experiences of my painting life.
In the months leading up to filming, I found myself searching everywhere for practical advice from artists who’d actually been through it. What’s the day really like? How do you prepare? What catches people out?
So after stepping into the main pod myself, I wanted to share the honest, practical tips I genuinely wish I’d known beforehand.
In the video below, I talk through the seven biggest lessons from my experience — from learning to paint against the clock, to handling the unpredictability of plein air painting in public, staying focused under pressure, and preparing for the realities of a very long filming day.
If you’re thinking of applying — or have just found out you’ve been selected — I hope this helps you feel a little more prepared, confident, and excited for what’s ahead.
Give it a go - you’ve got nothing to lose!
